Ardgowan Distillery

Ardgowan opened on 20 June 2025, becoming Scotland's newest Lowland distillery after nearly a decade of planning. The building is immediately distinctive: anodised steel cladding slopes from 20 metres to 14 metres, resembling the colour of the copper stills inside. The church-like shape earned it the nickname "cathedral of whisky." Built on the site of Inverkip's former Victorian gasworks on the Clyde coast, the distillery is managed by Laura Davies, formerly of Penderyn in Wales, with a pair of wash and spirit stills capable of producing one million litres of pure alcohol per year. The cask programme is led by Stuart MacPherson, formerly of Macallan, who created "the infinity cask" - a larger vessel designed to slow maturation and preserve spirit character.
