Portintruan is one of the most ambitious new distillery projects on Islay in a generation. Built by Elixir Distillers on the historic Portintruan estate - the name means "place of the stream" in Gaelic - the distillery combines traditional whisky-making with a modern sustainable ethos. On-site floor maltings, direct-fired wash stills, and wooden washbacks sit alongside closed-loop water systems and renewable energy solutions. The team includes veterans from Ardbeg, and distillery manager Georgie Crawford leads production.
