Watch master coopers repair 100,000 casks a year - the craft behind every dram

The Speyside Cooperage is one of the most fascinating stops on the Malt Whisky Trail and one of the most overlooked. From the viewing gallery, visitors watch master coopers and apprentices repair and rebuild the oak casks that give Scotch whisky its colour, flavour, and character. Around 100,000 casks pass through the cooperage every year. The craft of coopering has barely changed in centuries, and watching it in action is a genuinely memorable experience. The cooperage is part of the official Speyside Malt Whisky Trail.
